Blueberry Sauce

  • Author: angie
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup 1x

Description

A rich and sweet-tart blueberry sauce perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)

Instructions

  1. Start by rinsing the blueberries under cool water if you’re using fresh ones. Pick out any stems or unripe berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the blueberries along with the sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently.
  3. Continue to heat the mixture for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. If you want a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with water in a bowl until smooth and pour into the saucepan while stirring.
  5. Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
  6. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using it.

Notes

You can store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze it for 2-3 months.
