- 1 lb ground beef (or mix with turkey/chicken)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried or fresh basil
- 1 tsp dried or fresh oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- ½ cup beef or chicken broth (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil, sauté onions until soft, add garlic, then brown the meat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, seasonings, and broth; combine thoroughly.
- Reduce heat and simmer 25–30 minutes until thickened; adjust seasoning. Serve over pasta or use as desired.
