A beginner-friendly marinara sauce made with simple ingredients, ready in under 30 minutes. Perfect for pasta, pizza, or dipping bread.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 28 ounces canned whole tomatoes, crushed
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onions for 4–5 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic and stir for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
- Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, then stir in oregano, basil, sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Stir in fresh parsley before serving.
