Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • Pinch of salt (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Gradually fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While the bars are baking, prepare the glaze by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat until brown.
  7. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla bean paste, and salt. Adjust consistency with milk if necessary.
  8. Once the bars are baked and slightly cooled, pour the glaze over the top and let it set before cutting.
