Description

A tangy, slightly sweet, and gently spicy homemade mustard perfect for sandwiches, pretzels, sausages, and more. Easy to make with pantry staples and bursting with Mardi Gras flavor.


Ingredients

  • ½ cup yellow mustard seeds
  • ½ cup brown mustard seeds
  • ¾ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed)

Instructions

  1. Combine mustard seeds and soak in water and vinegar for 12–24 hours.
  2. Mix spices and sweetener in a saucepan with the soaked seeds.
  3. Cook over medium-low heat for 5–10 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Blend to desired texture, adding water or vinegar if needed.
  5. Transfer to a jar, refrigerate at least 24 hours for best flavor.

Storage: Airtight jar in refrigerator, up to 4–6 weeks
