Description
Delicious bite-sized versions of the classic onion blossom, perfect for dipping and healthier than traditional recipes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 small sweet onions (like Vidalia)
- 1 cup buttermilk (or non-dairy milk with vinegar as a substitute)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko works great for extra crunch)
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Cooking spray (for the air fryer)
- Optional: your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or spicy mayo
Instructions
- Start by preparing your mini onions. Carefully peel the outer layer and cut about 1 inch off the top, making sure to leave the root intact.
- In a bowl, pour the buttermilk. Dip each onion into the buttermilk, ensuring it’s coated well, and then let the excess drip off.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Dredge the dipped onions in the seasoned flour, making sure each petal is well-coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and crispy, giving the basket a shake midway through the cooking time.
- Once done, carefully remove the crispy mini blooming onions from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute or two before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
