  • Author: angie

Description

Deliciously crispy wonton tacos filled with savory ground chicken and topped with vibrant ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken (or diced chicken thighs)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste (or fresh ginger, grated)
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Optional toppings: Shredded cabbage, sliced jalapeños, diced tomatoes, avocado or guacamole, sour cream or Greek yogurt, fresh cilantro leaves

Instructions

  1. Start by heating a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add a splash of either sesame oil or vegetable oil, letting it warm up nicely.
  2. While the pan is heating, take your ground chicken and toss it into a mixing bowl. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and ginger paste. Use your hands or a spatula to mix everything until well combined.
  3. Once the skillet is hot, add your chicken mixture to the pan. Cook until the chicken starts to brown and becomes fully cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. While your chicken is cooking, prepare the wonton wrappers. Place about a tablespoon of the cooked chicken mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper and moisten the edges to fold and seal them.
  5. Heat your oil in a deep frying pan or pot – it should be around 350°F (175°C). Gently lower the filled wontons in batches into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crisp, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the tacos from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve the tacos hot and pile on your favorite toppings.

Notes

Avoid overcrowding the frying pan to maintain the oil temperature. Try healthier alternatives like baking the wontons.
