Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ cup frosting for topping

  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the mixture and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow the sugar cookie bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  9. Once cool, frost them with your favorite icing and add colorful toppings.

Notes

For healthier alternatives, substitute butter with unsweetened applesauce or use a flax egg for a vegan option.
